Frequently asked questions
Branding raises a lot of questions. We've answered the most common ones below, but if something's missing, reach out.
Our process
What services do you offer?
Our core services are Brand Strategy, Naming, Brand Identity, Websites, and Brand Launch. We also offer a wide range of supporting services including copywriting, motion graphics, brand guidelines, packaging, signage, social media templates, and more.
If you aren't sure where to start, we offer a 90-minute Brand Warm-Up working session with our whole team. It will give you insight into your brand, a chance to see what it would be like working with us, and if you get nothing out of it, we will refund your $1500.
How does Bullhorn Creative's branding process work?
We follow three phases, which we call Define, Design, and Deliver.
Define is discovery. We do research, stakeholder interviews, and workshops to get clear on who you are, what you do, and who your ideal client is.
Design is where we develop the name (if needed), visual identity, and verbal identity as an integrated system.
Deliver is execution. We create websites, launch planning, and the assets your team needs to go to market. The primary deliverable is a web-based brand guideline that houses everything in one place. Learn more at bullhorncreative.com/process.
Can I hire Bullhorn Creative for just part of the branding process?
Yes. Some clients come to us with a fully developed brand strategy and need help with execution. Others have strong marketing teams who will handle the Deliver phase themselves. We adapt to where you are. What we won't do is skip the foundational work if it hasn't been done. A beautiful identity built on an unclear strategy is a waste of your investment.
How do I know if I'm spending money on the wrong marketing message?
We start with the question: Am I wasting money on the wrong message? To answer that, you have to know who you are, what you do, and who your ideal customer is. That question gets to the core of brand strategy.
What do I actually get at the end of a branding project?
Our primary deliverable is a web-based brand guideline that makes it easy for you to maximize your investment in your brand. It has both the visual and verbal assets you need to maintain brand consistency. Here is our brand guidelines, for example: brand.bullhorn.work
Do you help with marketing beyond the brand guidelines?
If you have a marketing team, we can. But some of our clients have ongoing creative needs. We help with website work, digital advertising, trade show booths, merchandise design, animation. Anything that provides velocity to your marketing.
How do we get started working together?
Most agencies answer "what does it cost?" with "what's your budget?" It's opaque and undermines the trust great brand work depends on.
We built something different. The Bullhorn Brand Warm-Up is a focused working session with our whole team that gives you clarity, alignment, and a defined scope so you can move forward with confidence — and it costs $1,500, fully refundable if it wasn't a great investment.
It's the best way to get started, and a low-risk way to experience how we work before committing. Reach out to hello@bullhorncreative.com.
Brand deliverables
What makes a brand name good?
A good brand name has two things in common. One, it is a foundational piece of intellectual property you own. And two, it opens the door to the rest of the brand. It might hint at your culture, your service, your industry. But it is at a minimum intriguing.
How do you come up with and choose a brand name?
There are three phases. The first phase is to build the criteria. We work with you to determine what makes a good brand name. The second phase is name generation. We take the criteria and generate several hundred names. The third phase is deciding. We create a shortlist of 50 to 100 names. We send those through a preliminary trademark screening. We present the top 8 to 15 candidates to you with a criteria matrix to help you decide.
What is a brand identity and what does it include?
A brand identity is the verbal and visual assets that create differentiation based on your expertise. If it doesn’t differentiate, it is fluff. It doesn’t differentiate based on expertise; it is decoration.
What's included in a visual identity?
A visual identity consists of the logo and wordmark, the primary and secondary typefaces, the brand colors, illustration and photo style, and iconography. It should take your brand strategy and bring it to life.
Ideal client
What kind of companies do you typically work with?
Our clients have been successful but are running into limitations caused by their brand. Maybe they have hit a revenue ceiling, are having trouble attracting and retaining talent, have issues associated with geographic expansion, or are just embarrassed of their marketing materials for one reason or another.
What industries does Bullhorn Creative specialize in?
We most often work with professional services companies. Your service is part of your identity, your reputation. It is in the collective expertise of your culture.
Professional services can encompass architecture firms, accounting, construction, consulting, commercial real estate, engineering, insurance agencies, law firms, private equity firms, and financial services.
How big does my company need to be to work with you?
Our clients recognize revenue in different ways. Most of our clients are mid-market. They are big enough to have complex problems, but small enough that we can still have access to the c-suite or managing partners.
How much does a branding project cost?
Our engagements typically range from $25,000 to $75,000 depending on scope. Naming, full brand identity, website, and launch support are each distinct investments. We're transparent about pricing from the first conversation. If budget is a concern, we'd rather know upfront so we can discuss what's possible.
To get started, we offer a Brand Warm-Up — a fully refundable 90-minute session where we figure out fit, scope, and budget together. Learn more.
How long does a branding project take?
A naming project typically runs 2–3 months. A full brand identity project is usually around 4 months. Many clients then move into a retained relationship for ongoing creative work. The timeline depends on the scope and your team's availability for key decisions. We'll give you a clear project plan before we begin.
